Sawara Cypress 【椹】

It is a Japanese original tree belonging to Cupressaceae family. Much of them are produced in Kiso and Hida area. In Edo era, it is designated as one of Kiso great five trees and carefully preserved. It is almost 30 meter high. It is used for a “Shoji” screen frame. In addition, it is used for a rice-tub and chopsticks for it scarcely emit odor.
